While conservation work requires a conservation grade architect, we also bring all our other architectural skills to give you a delightful project. In doing so we bring some specialised knowledge of materials and processes that will not conflict visually and, perhaps more critically, technically with your house. For example the use of concrete mortar to replace lime mortar on old brick can cause cracking, waterlogging and structural damage to a brick facade. Then there is the issue of how to insulate while maintaining the necessary breathability of the structural elements that will otherwise decay. Just a couple of the many particular issues old buildings present….. regardless of whether they have a protection order!!
We love old buildings and the idea of keeping them functional relevant and ‘modern’ for centuries, while protecting their cultural significance. We regard it as a privilege to work on such buildings.
